Bilbo Baggins 06.02.2004 09:34

The Fellowship of the Ring

The Prophecy

Hlasta!
Quetis Ilfirimain:
Corma turien te

Listen!
It speaks to those who were not born to die:
[One] Ring to rule them [all]
[One] Ring to find [them]
[One] Ring to bring them [all]
[And] in the Darkness bind them
[The] Herald of Death
To find [One] Ring, to bring them [all]
[And] in the Darkness bind them
[One] Ring to rule them [all], [One] Ring

Aníron

O môr henion i dhû:

Tear-oh! Ell air-ee-ah ay more
Ee lear ehn ell loo-ih-thah oo-renn
Eye! Ah-near-on...

From darkness I understand the night:
Dreams flow, a star shines
Ah! I desire Evenstar.

Look! A star rises out of the darkness
The song of the star enchants my heart.
Ah! I desire...

Lament for Gandalf (solo)

In gwidh ristennin,
I fae narchannen
I Lach Anor ed ardhon gwannen

Mithrandir, Mithrandir! A Randir Vithren!

Oo-reh-nee-ah-thakh ee ah-mar gall-ehn

The bonds cut,
The spirit broken
The Flame of Anor has left this World

Mithrandir, Mithrandir, O Pilgrim Grey!
No more you will wander the green world
Your journey has ended in darkness.

Lament for Gandalf (chorus)

Ilfirin nairelma nauva i nauva

Undying [is] our regret, what should be shall be
Undying [is] our regret and yet we will cast all away,
What should be shall be, [our] love for this land [is] our regret.

O Queen Beyond the Western Seas (song of the Wood Elves)

A Bereth thar Ennui Aeair!
Calad ammen i reniar
Mi 'aladhremmin ennorath.
A Elbereth Gilthoniel
I chin a thûl lín míriel...

Ah Bare-ehth thar ehn-noo-ee eye-are

Mee ahl-ahth-rehm-meen ehn-nore-ahth
Ah Ell-bare-ehth geel-tho-nee-el

O Queen beyond the Western Seas!
O light to us that wander
Amid the tree-woven lands of Middle-earth.
O Elbereth Star-kindler
Your eyes and breath [are] like shining jewels...

Song to Tinúviel (sung by Aragorn)

Tinúviel elvanui
Elleth alfirin edhelhael
O hon ring finnil fuinui
A renc gelebrin thiliol...

Tin-oo-vee-ell ell-vah-noo-ee
Ell-ehth ahl-fear-een eth-ell-hyle
Oh hon ring feen-neel foo-ee-noo-ee
Ah rehnk gehl-ehb-reen theel-ee-ole

Tinúviel [the] elven-fair,
Immortal maiden elven-wise,
About him cast [her] night-dark hair,
And arms [like] silver glimmering...

In Dreams (featured in The Breaking of the Fellowship)

When the cold of winter comes
Starless night will cover day
In the veiling of the sun
We will walk in bitter rain
But in dreams
I can hear your name
And in dreams
We will meet again
When the seas and mountains fall
And we come to end of days
In the dark I hear a call
Calling me there
I will go there
And back again

May It Be

May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls
Your heart will be true
You walk a lonely road
Oh how far you are from home

Mornië utúlië [darkness has come]
Believe and you will find your way
Mornië alantië [darkness has fallen]
A promise lives within you now

May it be the shadow's call
Will fly away
May it be you journey on
To light the day
When the night is overcome
You may rise to find the sun

Mornië utúlië [darkness has come]
Believe and you will find your way
Mornië alantië [darkness has fallen]
A promise lives within you now

A promise lives within you now

Evenstar (solo)

Ú i vethed nâ i onnad. Si boe ú-dhanna. Ae ú-esteli, esteliach nad.

This is not the end...it is the beginning.
You cannot falter now.
If you don't trust [this], trust nothing else.

Trust this, trust this, trust,
Trust this, trust love.

Evenstar (chorus)

Ú i vethed nâ i onnad. Nâ boe ú i. [Es]teliach nad, estelio han.

Oo ee veh-thehd nah ee ohn-nahd.

You should not do this.
If you trust anything, trust this.

Entmoot (featured in Treebeard)

Can you smell it in the air?
The war is upon you,
Death moves in the fading light.
Are you part of this world?
Will you join their fight?

You are not bound to loss and silence.
For you are not bound to the circles of this world.
All things must pass away,
All life is doomed to fade...

Sorrowing you must go, [and yet you are not without hope]
[Note: section in brackets is part of the poem on which the song is based, but does not appear in the actual song].

The dark sleep is broken
The woods have awoken
The trees have gone to war
Roots rend, wood bends
The Ents have answered the call
Through branches now the wind sings
Feel the power of living things
The trees have gone to war

Haldir's Lament (featured in Isengard Unleashed)

Ar sindarnóriello caita mornië,
Ar ilye tier unduláve lumbule...

Are seen-dar-noh-ree-ell-oh kay-ee-tah more-nee-ah,
Are eel-yay tee-air oon-dool-ah-vay loom-bool-ay...

And from grey country lies darkness,
And from every direction [the] clouds slid down...

Gollum's Song

Where once was light
Now darkness falls
Where once was love
Love is no more

Don't say -- goodbye
Don't say -- I didn't try...

These tears we cry
Are falling rain
For all the lies
You told us
The hurt, the blame!

And we will weep
To be so alone
We are lost!
We can never go home

So in the end
I will be -- what I will be
No loyal friend
Was ever there for me

Now we say -- goodbye
We say -- you didn't try...

These tears you cry
Have come too late
Take back the lies
The hurt, the blame!

And you will weep
When you face the end alone
You are lost!
You can never go home

For himself; and for the one
Who will not return.

Pippin's Song (featured in The Steward of Gondor)

Home is behind
The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Mist and shadow
Cloud and shade
Hope shall fail
All shall fade

Into the West

Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end

Sleep now
Dream -- of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away

Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home

And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass

Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time

Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home

And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West

Bilbo Baggins 07.02.2004 14:05

Belaraniel 07.02.2004 14:33

At the end of all things :swoon: ...

Bilbo Baggins, Rika,

Ainedil, ;)

Naralote 19.02.2004 21:54

Ell-bare-ehth

Ah Bare-ehth thar ehn-noo-ee eye-are
Kahl-ahd ahm-men ee rehn-ee-are
Mee ahl-ahth-rehm-meen ehn-nore-ahth
Ah Ell-bare-ehth geel-tho-nee-el
ee heen ah thool leen mere-ee-ell

Mee ahl-ahth-rehm-meen ehn-nore-ahth Ah Ell-bare-ehth geel-tho-nee-el похоже (отдалённо) на O galadremmen ennorath A Elbereth Gilthoniel, а остальное

Song Title
Elvish Lyrics
Pronunciation
English Translation

natten 21.02.2004 16:03

Bilbo Baggins 22.02.2004 02:52

Anduril.

1 Hope and Memory,
2The Steward Of Gondor,
3Twilight and The Shadow,
4The End Of All Things,
5The Grey Havens,
6 Into The West!

ROTK - "Use Well The Days" ?

USE WELL THE DAYS

Round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I have passed them by
A day will come
I will take the hidden path that run
West of the Moon and East of the Sun

I'm glad that you are here with me
[???????]

Night too shall be beautiful
and blessed and it's fear will pass
I must leave, must cross the Sea
The love you gave is all I take with me

Use well the days
Use well the days
Turn your face to the green world
Use well the days

Seven stars and seven stones
And one White Tree
[????????]

Use well the days
Use well the days
Turn your face to the green world
Use well the days

Annie Lennox "Use Well The Days"

Around the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though I have passed them by,
A day will come...
I will take the hidden paths that run
West of the moon, and East of the sun.
I'm glad that you are here with me,
Here at the end of all things.

Night, too, shall be beautiful,
And blessed, and its fear will pass.
I must leave, must cross this sea;
The love you gave is all I take with me.

Use well the days,
Use well the days...
Turn your face to the green world,
Use well the days.

Seven stars and seven stones
And one White Tree,
From all the sundered seas...

Use well the days,
Use well the days...
Turn your face to the green world.
Use well the days.

Мне, если честно, Use Well The Days нравится больше, чем Into the West.

Реальная история, стоявшая за песней Into The West.

Back Story of Into The West

They met so they could do charitable works, this 16-year-old and these emerging legends. Less than two years later, the boy would be a true member of the family, the creator of two extraordinary short films, and lost to the world, a victim of aggressive bone cancer, which he found to the very end.

This is the story of life cut short and one last loving tribute that will last forever in the memories of millions, soon to be passed from one generation to the next, lasting not only past the life of the boy but of the songwriters, the filmmakers and even the journalists who first told the tale.

Cameron Duncan was just 17 when cancer took him. He was described by the New Zealand Herald as an “amateur filmmaker,” when they did a story on Fran Walsh’s acknowledgement of him from the stage of the Golden Globes, as she took home the award she shared with Howard Shore and Annie Lennox for the closing ballad of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, "Into The West." But anyone who actually saw Cameron’s last two films – made after his cancer years began, the second just before his last battle ensued - would know that he was more than an amateur and sadly wise beyond his years.

Fran Walsh has two children of her own in collaboration with Peter Jackson. But when you talk to her about Cameron, she has all the passion and caring of immediate family, slightly disconnected from her pain by the anesthesia of the endless whirlwind she and her family have been in since the November delivery of Return of the King… which occurred on the very day that Cameron passed away.

Cameron Duncan became part of Peter & Fran’s life because of Peter’s support of organ donation, a movement just getting started in New Zealand. Cameron had won a number of awards for his film work in high school in the “Fair Go” program, sponsored by New Zealand’s TV One. After meeting with Peter & Fran, Cameron took on the Public Service Announcement for the cause.

Soon after he made that short, Cameron’s made DFK 6498, a short with the brazen self-assurance of a man far older than 16. Set in a jail cell, Cameron’s poetic voiceover about being “inside” was interesting enough before the metaphor of his cancer became clear.

Fran’s love for this boy…

White shores are calling
you and I will meet again.
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping.

… was very much a reflection of her love for her life mate, Peter. Fran can wave things off with a “boys and their toys” laugh. But the joy in her eyes at the thought of their delight tells the greater truth. Her art is not the same as theirs. But her passion is. You can feel her pain from across the room at just the thought of the end of a brightly burning light.

Throughout 2003, Cameron and his mother, helped along by Fran’s inexhaustible efforts to learn about the disease and the possibilities of its cure, fought for a breath of fresh air, quite literally. The bone cancer had moved to Cameron’s lungs, battling for its sad survival with all the strength of the boy who would battle it to the death.

Wrecked by the various bouts of Chemo, Cameron got a second wind for a short period and made Strike Zone, editing on his Mac from the hospital bed to which he soon returned. In the film, Cameron (portraying himself), too ill to play for his softball team, leads them with his words instead, and in the end, dies the death that he knew was coming. He shot his own funeral, with his mates as pallbearers, and his mother leading the procession to his grave.

Soon after finishing the film Cameron returned to Texas, in the care of the best bone cancer specialist in the world, trying to complete his heroic journey by accomplishing the nearly impossible. The cancer was growing at a speed normally left to sci-fi movies. It cleared one lung, but left it so debilitated that it was literally blown apart by one strong cough by Cameron. Tumors pressed the outside of Cameron’s body, knotting on Cameron’s chest and back. The pain was overwhelming and the war was all but lost. But Cameron and his mother returned to Texas, agreeing to radical experimental treatment, rarely used on humans before. The pain of breathing in the chemicals, which Cameron described as a burning sensation, was, amazingly, a relief from the pain of the cancer itself.

Fran couldn’t go to Texas to be with Cameron and his mom. Return of the King was already delivering a little late. And while the work went on in New Zealand, she and Peter had to be in London to finish the scoring with Howard Shore. As Cameron fought for the last shards of his life in Texas, Fran joined in on a collaboration with composer Howard Shore and singer/musician Annie Lennox, writing "Into The West." On the surface, the song that was about Frodo’s journey into the light at the end of the Rings trilogy… but was also about this young man who was just lost to Fran and her family, to New Zealand and to all of us.

“Lay down
your sweet and weary head
Night is falling,
you have come to journey's end.
Sleep now,
and dream of the ones who came before.
They are calling
from across the distant shore.”

Cameron’s body came home on an Air New Zealand airplane that was covered by a massive image of Frodo. Life continued to trail art was just days after Cameron’s death, as he was buried in that same place, high on a hill overlooking his home, a view to last longer than a lifetime. "Into The West" was played for the first time in public that day. The song assured that Cameron’s wish not to be forgotten, expressed in Stroke Zone, would be upheld.

“Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. There's another path; one that we all must take. The gray rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and it will change to silver glass, and then you see it.

Pippin: See what?

Gandalf: White shores; and beyond them, a far green country under a swift sunrise.”

Rika, если вы знаете, где можно скачать “Use Well the Days”, укажите, пожалуйста.

Rika 29.02.2004 05:00

Tivien,
песню “Use Well the Days” можно скачать вот здесь: http://www.freewebs.com/ancalime/features.htm

“Use Well the Days” по смыслу явно идет от имени Фродо, причем ее текст почти на 100% состоит из цитат из ВК - и по большей части все они действительно принадлежат Фродо (за исключением "семи звезд").

Например, "night, too, shall be beautiful and blessed, and its fear will pass" - немного переиначенные слова Фродо об Арвен, приехавшей на свадьбу с Арагорном.

Into The West.

A good example of a "rarity" will be on the bonus DVD that is part of the Limited Edition Return of the King soundtrack. It has a video diary about the recording of the score, as well as a special seven minute trailer from all three films. The third element, which I consider a "rarity" is a song called "Use Well The Days", which was a piece I started writing after thinking about Annie Lennox. I went to New Zealand in April, and met with Fran Walsh, who collaborated with me on "In Dreams" and “Gollum’s Song” and we thought about different artists that we might want to work with. Annie Lennox was at the top of the list.

On the way back to New York from New Zealand, I wrote Annie a letter talking about my process for the months ahead, and the film, to see if she was interested in it. When I got back, I wrote a piece called "Use Well The Days" that used words adapted from Tolkien's lyrics, because Fran hadn't started the process yet. Then when I met Annie in New York for the first time, I played her that piece - it was something I had written with her in mind. I had just put together a demo. Then she recorded it at Abbey Road during the summer.

As we've worked on all these films, we've created so many things, and so many ideas - they lead you on a path - and "Use Well The Days" did exactly that. It was like an early version of "Into the West". So it's on this bonus DVD - you can hear Annie singing it. It's not in the film, and it's not on the CD, but it was recorded during the making of his movie. That is a good example of a rarity.

natten 03.03.2004 20:30

:(

natten 03.03.2004 20:43

natten 04.03.2004 17:58

Cкачала "Use Well The Days".
Мне больше нравится "На Запад", чем "Use Well The Days".
