Это скорее вопрос степени гуманности, а не ее наличия, ИМХО.
Но мне кажется, на самом деле это очень классная тема, которую мы подняли. У Толкиена в Гоблин-тауне и Лихолесье явные параллели. И все же эльфы - добрые, а гоблины - нет. Риторика очень различается, действия эльфов более мягкие, но параллели очевидны. Где-то кроется загадка, надо звать Хельгу - она Историю Хоббита читала!
Гоблины:
Схватили без лишних слов, кнуты, щипки и "очень грубо", гномы, скованные в одну цепь, их буквально тащили на этой цепи, привели к королю, тот спросил, что они тут делают.
Эльфы:
Вышли и приказали сдаваться, стрелы, "не слишком мягко", гномы, связанные друг с другом и завязанные глаза (глаза в какой-то мере объясняют причину связывания гномов), гномов подгоняли и поторапливали. Привели к королю, тот спросил, что они тут делают.

А на Трандуила за похожее, но более мягкое поведение он разобиделся так, что никаких услуг предлагать и не подумал, вел себя гораздо более грубо, поскольку от эльфов он ждал другого поведения, и реальность с его ожиданиями не совпала. А опасаться эльфов как гоблинов Торин оснований не видел, по-прежнему, очевидно, причисляя их к Доброму Народу.

Кстати, еще интересно, если Торина поймали раньше (почти на сутки же, на ночь - так точно?), была ли у него возможность просить за других? Или это гордость обратиться к эльфам не позволила? Или просто не додумался?
