When I first saw still photos of Viggo as Aragorn, my problem was I didn't think he was good looking enough...I'd always seen Aragorn as handsome and kingly, albeit scruffy for most of the film from his years in the wild. It's his manner as much as his features that make him attractive--soft spoken, confident without being cocky. I totally agree with Lucifer that It's his manner as much as his features that make him attractive. In fact, none of the main male charcters in the films came across as drop-dead gorgeous when I first saw them... not even the overrated (looks-wise) Orlando Bloom, I didn't even notice him at the Council of Elrond during my first viewing. It was only after a few scenes later that they started becoming attractive.
Viggo's charm lies in the little touches he adds to Aragorn's mannerisms: his characteristic, almost languorous droop of the head whenever he consents to something (anyone else noticed that?), his intent gaze, and to a certain extent, his voice. He is utterly charismatic. It's not really his looks, because when I saw photos of him sans the Arangorn make-up, the charm is somewhat lost. And may I add, Aragorn's innate qualities makes this character attractive as much as Viggo's looks - his leadship qualities, the way he faces his dilemmas, his faithful devotion to Arwen and the desirable advantage that he's a king-to-be. It's the total package - females who like Aragorn are attracted to Viggo as much as they are to Aragorn's appealing attributes.
So is Viggo Mortensen too attractive to play Aragorn? No. Does he play Aragorn too attractively? Erm... in a very minor way, yes... but I'm not complaining
