Ну, за меня, в общем, уже ответили. Гэндальф собирался вести Бильбо и Ко через перевал (о чём напрямую говорится в "Хоббите"), а про туннель не знал. А во время выхода Братства из Ривенделла тот перевал, конечно, уже был покрыт снегом.
Для сравнения: Братство вышло из Ривенделла 25 декабря, Бильбо и Ко - в День середины лета (24 июня).
