А фраза мне не очень нравится, потому что: "But it is most likely that this is not so much supposed to represent the preposition 'without' as rather the adjective ending '-less' (why else would it be lenited), as such, it is probably rather close to the noun in spite of the hyphen and should rather be read *penadar" (Торстен Ренк, "Mutations in Sindarin").
Я бы сказал просто cuinant ú-brestannen. "He lived untroubled".
