Про еврейскую религию не скажу (кстати, при чём здесь она?), но эльфы, христианством тоже "не предесмотренные", вполне находили себе место в средневековом мировоззрении. Правда, не самое почётное: если не ошибаюсь, в "Беовульфе" они причислены к потомкам Каина.
