В принципе, не прямым текстом, но понятно, что потомок и людей, и эльфов. Хотя, эту фразу про потомков можно и не счесть за относящуюся непосредственно к Элронду. А раз друг эльфов - значит, вроде, и не эльф вовсе.
То есть полагаю, переводчику, не читавшему ВК, сходу было не разобраться.
