3. Panel - Dean O’Gorman (prepare for the sex questions..)



So before Dean went on stage the presenter started making all this jokes like “Uh, is it just me or is it getting a little warm in here? I have a fili-ing that it’s getting hotter” and oh god,really had to contain myself AND THEN DEAN WALKED ON STAGE WITH THAT MESSY HAIR AND THE BLOODY PLAID SHIRT AND THE SEXY SCARF AND I WANTED TO PUKE RAINBOWS

Okay ugh, don’t mind me, now to the questions..



Question: How did the audition progress go?
Dean: I actually auditioned as Bilbo but it didn’t work out and I thought I’d never get a role.. .but then I got a call from my manager saying “you’ve got a role in the Hobbit” and I thought she meant some youtube, fanmade stuff because I never thought I’d be in such a big movie but then Phillipa rang me and I tried to be real casual like “Hey Phil, how’s it going?” and then she asked me if I could come down for another audition next week and I was like “well, I’ve gotta check my calendar first… uhm yeah okay I guess I can do that”, like, trying to be really cool but I was so nervous and then I went to the audition where I met Aidan and then I got the part and I was like “WOW!” *throws fist in the air*

Question: You were not the first Fili that was cast for the Hobbit…
Dean: *stares at Fan* Uuuuuuuuuuuuh …
Question: I’m sorry! But I need to ask! Was it hard to get to know the others after they had already bonded?
Dean: A bit nervwrecking, but everyone was really supportive! They were aways like “Oh, you got a scene today mate? I’ll be there and support you!” but they were still like “Mmm, let’s see how long you’ll last. >” So I was kinda the new guy for a while but it was no big deal.

Question: Is there any scene that you wouldn’t want to shoot again? Not for all the love and money in the world.
Dean: Love and money are two very attractive objects. But maybe my first day… It was terrifying. When I was on set I felt like I was watching a movie until I heard the crew going “…are you gonna say your line or…?” But there’s nothing I wouldn’t want to do again.

Question: Fili and Kili have a very strong bond. How’s the relationship between you and Aidan in real life?
Presenter: ooh, I’m sensing fanfiction here! (I almost choked and Dean was blushing gaaaaw :3)
Dean: Well uhm… Aidan is very funny, kinda like Kili actually. He’s amazing and we’re good mates. (I wanted to slap him for that short answer but I didn’t want to damage his handsome face…)


Question: How much did you practice to learn how to fight with your swords?
Dean: I’d like to say not much… But I hit myself in the face a few times and it actually took quite a while.

Question: I’ve been wondering…. how did Fili and Kili really lose the ponies?
Audience: *giggles*
Dean: Oh yeah.. uhm… Hobbiton weed! I don’t wanna say who gave it to us but he’s tall and has a pointy hat.

Question: How much of Fili’s character do you find in yourself?
Dean: I’m taller than him *laughs*! He’s someone I’d aspire t be like. He’s more o a warrior than I am and I’d actually would like to be more of a warrior. (You’ve got the black belt in karate, r u serious)

Question: What was it like to see the movie for the 1st time?
Dean: I was afraid I had failed epically but in the end I was just glad to be in it.

Question: What was the funniest thing that happened on set?
Dean: Watching Stephen Hunter do anything, like him sitting down on a tiny chair and his bum would just go… like hanging down on the sides.

Question: If you could be any other dwarf, which one would it be?
Dean: Thorin is pretty cool, it’s a challenging role. Bombur I would not want to be. Maybe Kili… He’s got a bow and shoots things, that’s cool.

Question: If you could play any other Tolkien character… who would that be?
Dean: I wouldn’t want to be an elf, it’s not cool for a dwarf. I’d probably be … a warg! Or maybe a hobbit, I really don’t know. Or goblin king… or maybe his son! The goblin prince.

Question: You’re small and play a dwarf. Did the Almighty Johnsons cast make fun of you?
Dean: Yes, all the time. They also made some refferences to it in season 2.

Question: Your favorite scene in the Almighty Johnsons?
Dean: Everything with Jared in it. The relationship between Ty and Anders is really important and I love taking the piss out of him (and then he explained that taking the piss out of someone shouldn’t be understood literal I’m crying).

Question: You had to get naked a lot for filming the Almighty Johnsons. Was that embarrassing?
Dean: Yes, it was!! It was really embarrassing. In the first week we all were naked at some point, makes you feel like a porn star. But we weren’t completely naked, we had this little… or massive I should say *laughs* socks on our… our… you know? (I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE HELP ME)

Question: I’ve seen your movie ‘When Love Comes Along’…
Dean: WHAT? Someone actually saw that movie? Oh god…
Question: I think it was awesome… So my question is: How is it for you to play a gay character? (GUYS YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN HIS FACE HE WAS BLUSHING SO HARD AND HE WAS SO EMBARRASSED AND OH GOD SLJAHSJH)
Dean: I.. uh… uhm… oh god… okay… so I… It was no big deal.
