For one, it’s produced purely to raise awareness of heart disease and sales proceeds support the American Heart Association, other cardiac research organizations and families in need. Oh, and it’s available almost exclusively at Walgreens. That’s right, Walgreens.
Colby Red is made by renowned Australian winemaker Daryl Groom and was inspired by his 12 year-old son Colby who was born with a hole in his heart. Colby underwent back to back open heart surgeries just prior to his tenth birthday.
Launched in February 2011, funds generated from Colby Red sales for charities that promote heart health have exceeded $100,000. Colby will be telling his story on NBC’s Today Show on Tuesday, February 21, 2012.
